Sam’s Southern Eatery is bringing its beloved Southern flavors to Wichita’s east side with a third location at 6121 E. 21st St. Spearheaded by Emanuel Ashiedu, this new spot introduces Wichita’s first drive-through service, offering quick access to favorites like crispy fried catfish

Bringing Southern Hospitality to a New Spot

Sam’s Southern Eatery is continuing its growth in Wichita by launching its third location, bringing its famous Southern-style flavors to the east side of the city. Emanuel Ashiedu, a software engineer from Salina and a passionate restaurateur, is spearheading this new venture at 6121 E. 21st St. This location has seen many transformations — from its beginnings as a Long John Silver’s in the 1980s to its most recent life as Clouds, a daiquiri lounge turned Mediterranean restaurant. Now, it’s set to become a hub for authentic Southern comfort food.

First-Ever Drive-Through Experience

One of the most exciting features of this new location is the introduction of a drive-through service — a first for Sam’s Southern Eatery in Wichita. Though this branch will be smaller than the others, Emanuel Ashiedu sees it as an opportunity to offer fast, convenient service without sacrificing quality. The drive-through will offer a limited menu with customer favorites like crispy fried catfish, jumbo fried shrimp, and signature po' boy sandwiches. Those dining inside will still have access to the restaurant’s full, mouthwatering menu.

Southern Classics on the Menu

Since its founding in 2008 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Sam’s Southern Eatery has become renowned for its exceptional Southern comfort food. Diners can enjoy a wide array of dishes, including:

  • Fried green tomatoes

  • Fried pickles

  • Crab cakes

  • Chicken wings

  • Fried oysters

Every item is prepared using fresh ingredients and time-honored recipes, ensuring an authentic Southern dining experience with every bite.

A Growing Kansas Presence

Emanuel Ashiedu and his brother-in-law, Charles Scott, have been instrumental in expanding Sam’s Southern Eatery across Kansas. Their first Wichita location opened in early 2024 in the former DeFazio’s space near 29th and Amidon. Later that year, they added a second location at 6600 W. Central. The community’s warm reception has fueled their drive to keep growing.

Plans for Future Expansion

The journey doesn’t end here. Emanuel Ashiedu has his sights set on bringing another drive-through location to the south side of Wichita, aiming to make Sam’s Southern Eatery even more accessible. This ambitious expansion reflects the increasing popularity of the restaurant’s signature dishes and commitment to great service.

Opening Soon — Don’t Miss Out

Scheduled to open in mid- to late March, the East Wichita location will offer both drive-through convenience and a cozy dine-in atmosphere. With its delicious menu and customer-first approach, Sam’s Southern Eatery is ready to win over even more fans in Wichita.
